Respirator fit testing
Work Science performs respirator fit testing in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. Quantitative and qualitative respirator fit testing is available.
Fit tests are undertaken for the purposes of compliance with Australian and New Zealand Standard – AS/NZS 1715:2009 Selection, use and maintenance of Respiratory Protective Equipment.
Fit tests are undertaken using the OSHA 29CFR 1910.134 methodology.
Qualitative fit test (QLFT) means a pass/fail fit test to assess the adequacy of respirator fit that relies on the individual’s response to the test agent.
Quantitative fit test (QNFT) means an assessment of the adequacy of respirator fit by numerically measuring the amount of leakage into the respirator. Work Science recommends undertaking quantitative fit testing.
Work Science can fit test a wide range of respirators including:
- Disposable filtering-facepiece fit testing for Series 100/99/95/P1/P2/P3/ HEPA masks
- Half-mask fit testing
- Full-face fit testing
- Gas mask fit testing
- PAPR fit testing
- SCBA fit testing
It takes approximately 20 minutes per worker per mask to complete a test. However, it may take longer for a worker where they fail, and a re-test is required until a pass is achieved. If a pass is unable to be achieved a re-test may need to be re-scheduled with a different mask.
