Client Project

Workshop Facilitation – Construction & Infrastructure/Defence

Work Science has facilitated a range of workshops for Lendlease projects across the country including Safety in Design, Project Risk and Lessons Learnt workshops. Projects include NCIS-3 HMAS Stirling & Henderson Building Works; Helicopter Aircrew Training System (HATS); AIR7000 Phase 2B Maritime Patrol Aircraft Replacement and the AIR7000 Phase 1B Remotely Piloted Unmanned Aircraft Systems MQ-4C Triton Outcomes of these workshops assisted in meeting legal compliance obligations (for designers through to construction and operations) but also provided safer outcomes and cost savings across the building lifecycle (considering maintenance and decommissioning during design stage).

Workshop Facilitation – Construction & Infrastructure/Defence

Work Science has facilitated a range of workshops for Laing O’Rourke projects across the country including Project Risk, Lessons Learnt and Value Management workshops. Projects include Larrakeyah Defence Precinct Redevelopment, Osborne Naval Shipbuilding Precinct (Future Submarine Program) and the AIR5428 Pilot Training System. Outcomes of these workshops assisted in meeting contractual compliance obligations and improved collaboration through expert independent facilitation.

WHS Management – H&S Strategy – Government & Public Services

Work Science has worked with a range of Government organisations to shape and design health and safety programs for large Government programs and initiatives such as the Solar for Low Income households. Through our early involvement and engagement the risk associated with these large scale, multi-contracting layer programs has been reduced. We take a risk-based approach based on the client’s risk attitude to develop and implement an auditing and assurance program that is aimed at mitigating risk and providing assurance.

WHS Management – Government & Public Services

Work Science developed the new WHS strategy in consultation with the human resources and WHS team and all relevant stakeholders and health and safety representatives. The recent Machinery of Government (MoG) changes that created the new department meant a new department-wide health and safety strategy was required. Detailed consultation was undertaken with all stakeholders to create a simple high-level WHS strategy from which to align the WHS management system. Work Science assisted with change management and alignment of the various divisions across the business.

Safety Culture and Change Program – Energy & Utilities

Scott Paine spent just three years as the EGM Safety at Ausgrid and was responsible for the safety of 6,000+ high-risk electrical workers. During this time Scott was responsible for implementing a very successful safety program, ‘Be Safe’ and taking them through a successful National Self Insurance Audit with the state regulator. The program included modification to electrical safety rules, drug and alcohol programs, leadership programs, new performance indicators and remuneration structures resulting in best WHS performance in the history of Ausgrid. Activities included advice, training, assistance, guidance, WHS and risk management plans, workshops and registers, audits, inspections, reviews, safe design, contractor safety management, regulatory compliance management, development and maintenance of safety management systems, management reporting, incident investigations, reports and corrective action management, continuous improvement based on evidence gained from safety activities (inspections, audits, reviews, workshops, consultation, management meetings, leadership walks).

WHS Management – Occupational Hygiene - Government & Public Services/ Defence

Work Science has assisted DHA with a range of WHS and occupational hygiene related services for over five years including development of WHS strategy, audit of WHS and Quality management system, development of new integrated WHS and quality management system, advisory services, training, assistance, guidance, WHS and risk management plans, workshops and registers, audits, inspections, reviews, safe design, contractor safety management, regulatory compliance management, development and maintenance of safety management systems, management reporting, incident investigations, reports and corrective action management, asbestos and occupational hygiene consulting advice and continuous improvement based on evidence gained from safety activities (inspections, audits, reviews, workshops, consultation, management meetings, leadership walks).

WHS Management & Due Diligence – Manufacturing

Work Science conducted a comprehensive WHS audit of the client’s director due diligence and operational WHS practices at manufacturing plants across Australia. Work Science has also completed a full business WHS audit against the requirements of ISO45001 and an industry research and benchmarking project on health and safety KPIs and resourcing. Work Science works with National FMCG manufacturer to implement a multi-year program to review health and safety and push performance in the right direction. This includes a range of services including coaching sessions, interviews and auditing. We have also assisted with setting the agenda and long term plan for health and safety across the organisation.

Property Risk - Occupational Hygiene - Property & Facilities Management

Work Science has provided a range of consulting services for CBRE including property risk assessments, indoor air quality monitoring and COVID-19 hygiene consulting. Over the years our team has provided multi-disciplinary consulting services to CBRE including confined space risk management, chemical safety management and asbestos and hazardous materials risk management. Feedback from our clients at CBRE has been that they have been impressed with the quality of our work and timeliness – meeting deadlines and communicating regularly on project progress.

Property Risk - Occupational Hygiene - Property & Facilities Management

Work Science has provided a range of consulting services for ISPT including HSE Assurance audits, property risk assessments contractor safety management reviews and COVID-19 hygiene consulting. Over the years our team has provided multi-disciplinary consulting services to ISPT including asbestos and hazardous materials risk management and online risk platforms consulting.

Property Risk – Occupational Hygiene – Government & Public Services/Education

In mid-2020 the Work Science team undertook a research project into best practice in chemical management. This included speaking to a range of schools, universities, Government agencies and other industries to gather feedback about good practices for managing chemical registers, storage practices, chemical procurement and online chemical management systems. Insights into stakeholder management and change management and innovative initiatives such as QR codes and ‘micro-chemistry’ greatly assisted our client with forming their future strategy for chemical management. As an extension to this project a compliance review and update of the existing Chemical Safety procedure was undertaken, including training and webinars for key stakeholders.

Property Risk – WHS Management – Workshop Facilitation – Education

Work Science assisted University of Canberra with reviewing and understanding their legal compliance obligations relating to the properties and facilities within their portfolio. The project included a legal review of applicable legislation and an overview presentation to key stakeholders. We used our innovative and engaging workshop facilitation techniques to gather information from key stakeholders as to the current compliance status, develop a risk register and an implementation plan for closing any gaps identified. Training and upskilling of project team members on property compliance and ongoing management was also provided. The project provided key university stakeholders with an understanding of their legal property compliance and a prioritised action plan.

Property Risk – Occupational Hygiene – WHS Management – Entertainment

Work Science has provided a range of consulting services to SkyCity Entertainment across Australia and New Zealand including property risk reviews, working at heights reviews, safety strategy development, contractor safety reviews, asbestos and hazardous materials consulting and WHS and compliance training services, development of a health and wellbeing strategy, development and delivery of customised HSR training, safety in design facilitation and training, and high-profile event risk management advice. These services have involved the use of innovative technology such as ‘Google Glass’ and interaction with the SkyCity online risk management platform - DoneSafe.

WHS Management – Workshop Facilitation - Defence/Government & Public Services

Work Science is a member of the Work Health & Safety (WHS) Services Standing Panel Arrangement (DEED NO: SON3633080). As part of this panel Work Science has provided a range of WHS consulting services to various Defence Groups. A key project included running bowtie risk workshops – using Bowtie XP software to help facilitate the workshop and provide deliverables to meet the Department of Defence internal requirements. Our workshop facilitation methods including pre-consultation to the efficiency of the workshop – delivering quality outcomes that the Department can utilise to mitigate risk across the enterprise.

WHS Management – Audit & Assurance – Government & Public Services

Work Science has provided Taronga Conservation Society Australia (Taronga Zoo) with WHS audit and professional services since early 2017. This includes full WHS review (audit) of both sites (Mosman and Dubbo), undertaking a deep dive into all operational areas of the organisation, which included working with animals, live events and hospitality, facilities maintenance and capital works projects. The review was undertaken utilising a bespoke methodology informed by:
1. ISO 45001 Occupational health and safety management systems. Requirements with guidance for use.
2. NSW Work Health and Safety Act and Regulation.
3. ISO 19011 Guidelines for auditing management systems. At the completion of the review (audit), good practices, findings, observations and recommendations for improvement were identified and provided by way of a detailed report and presentation to the Taronga Board of Directors Audit and Risk Committee
